Thoughts on The-Dream’s '1977' →
A few quick thoughts on Terius Nash aka The-Dream’s new free album up on MTVHive at the link above. Needless to say, I’m kind of bummed out on the whole thing. Download the album and read the lyrics at the Radio Killa website.

Jamie XX's Essential Mix →
Jamie xx Essential Mix by Young Turks And so my never-ending love affair with Jamie XX continues. To avoid redundancy, I’m just going to copy/paste this post that I already wrote for MTVHive about how very smart this guy is: Behold BBC Radio 1′s latest Essential Mix featuring the XX‘s Jamie xx. The twenty-three-year-old Brit has been the source of much buzz within the dance community...

David Heartbreak Remixes The Weeknd's "Thursday"... →
And it’s really, really good. These are minimally-produced smooth-and-sexy bedroom jams rather than raging moombahton bangers. I am very happy about that. From Heartbreak: This kid from Toronto has been one of my favorite underground artists for quite some time. So I said whats better than an underground artist rocking with an underground producer. I basically took the thursday album,...

New Dead Gaze 10" →
My emo past is way into Dead Gaze’s new release on Group Tightener. Extra snaps to the dudes Jamie and Sam - the founders of GT - on having their home-grown label featured in Billboard’s “Best Indie Labels in America” list as well. It’s well deserved. From GT: R. Cole Furlow makes beautifully angsty music as Dead Gaze. His songs are bursting with warped emotion,...

Resident Advisor, Under Wraps →
Pick up this week’s issue of the Voice and read this thing I wrote on RA’s ten-year anniversary and their accompanying RA X celebrations. The bit includes a few related thoughts on dance underground in “the age of the Internet”. Above poster art by Zeke Clough aka. the guy who did all the old Skull Disco work.

Credit goes to Mr. Famous for digging up this clip from the short film The Future is Now released in 1955. “This is music with a strictly electronic beat!” Amazing.

Review: M83 - Midnight City →
Midnight City by M83 I wrote this little thing about M83’s new single and upcoming album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming for MTV’s Hive. Liked the song despite - and, in part, probably because of - the retro sax serenade towards the end. All I’m saying is that some part of the double-disc album better make me want to cry. Read my review + download the track.

Skratch Bastid: The Entertainer →
This guy is a maniac on the turntables, as is shown about eight minutes into this new mix and/or by the time he played a verse of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” in the middle of a rap set at The Rub this past June. Newer tracks I’m biased toward in this mix of classics and re-fixes: The “Paid In Full”/Ofra Haza remix, “Look At Hudson Mohawke...

The Scariest Clauses In The MTV Real World... →
This is a great follow-up to Camille Dodero’s epic cover story on what would have been the original Jersey Shore. The lady also managed to get her hands on a copy of the contract that gets signed by anyone who participates in MTV’s Real World. Bad news bears.

Das Racist - Michael Jackson The first single from their upcoming Relax LP coming out on Heems’ Greedhead label. Love the production on this, but I’m a sucker for anything that goes this hard on an MPC. The track is co-produced by Patrick Wimberly from Chairlift - the same guys that collaborated on “Fashion Party” for the group’s Sit Down, Man release.
